Kilt Lifter is our award-winning flagship brew, crafted in the tradition and honor of the great strong ales of Scotland. Take one sip and you’ll swear it had been brewed by men in kilts—and maybe it was. It’s a full-bodied ale with pronounced flavors of caramel and roasted barley. Notice its amber color, malty sweetness and a hint of smokiness with a clean, dry finish? That’s a true Scottish-style ale.

Location: Draft at the Production Facility Tasting Room, 3/8/14

Aroma: The nose is caramel malts, with some fruity notes, a little spice, and some peat notes
Appearance: It pours a clear amberish color with an off-white head and average lace
Flavor: The flavor is medium sweet, caramel malts, with spice and peat notes
Palate: The body is medium, it has a soft-to-average carbonation, and a lightly dry finish
Overall Impression: This is a decent, drinkable beer. I didn't have any issues with it. It wasn't a favorite for me, but if this was the only craft on tap at a restaurant, I'd be happy to drink it again.

Rcvd in trade. Reviewed from notes.
The appearance was a bronze yet slightly amber looking colored body with a one finger white foamy head that dies within a minute, lacing tries to cling to the glass but slides a bit, spider webs after a while.
The smell had a rich sort of malty, peatiness with a slight tobacco edge.
The taste was mainly sweet, slightly peaty aftertaste, smooth sweet finish.
The palate was about a light to medium and somewhat sessionable. Carbonation is very subdued but still good for the style and for me.
Overall, I say a pretty good Scottish Ale, good job Four Peaks, second brew by them and I’m becoming quite intrigued by them.

Pint at Hilton Phoenix. Pours a clear deep amber with pillowy white head that leaves generous lace. Nose is caramel and vanilla with a bit of fruit sweetness. Mouth is quite creamy with medium carbonation.

On draught at Yard House in Scottsdale. This beer is a slightly cloudy reddish-amber color with a medium thin light beige head that recedes quickly to an outer ring. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of smoked malt and hops. Medium body with a mildly smoky character and flavors of grainy malt and hops. The finish is sweet with a short malt aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

Got in a trade with AZBeerDude72. 16 ounce can into pint glass, best before 10/1/2019. Pours crystal clear medium orange/copper/amber color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, brown sugar, brown bread dough, and toasted biscuit; with lighter notes of nuttiness, roast, smoke, raisin, plum, pear, red apple, wood, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/toasted earthiness. A bit too fruity/yeasty aromas, but not overwhelming. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready/light roasted malts, light-moderate fruity yeast, and light earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, brown bread dough, and toasted biscuit; with lighter notes of nuttiness, roast, smoke, raisin, plum, pear, red apple, wood, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal, floral, woody, grassy, roasted bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, brown bread dough, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, roast, smoke, raisin, plum, pear, red apple, wood, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/light roasted malts, and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no cloying flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 6%. Overall this is a delicious Scottish ale. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/light roasted malts, and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mellowly bitter/drying finish; great soft feel. Nicely clean/rich English malt complexity; solid earthy hops and restrained fruity yeast. Light residual sweetness with lingering dryness. A very enjoyable offering, and well made traditional tasting style example. Glad I was able to revisit this review from 2013.

Refrigerated 12 oz. aluminum can obtained from JStax as an extra, poured into a shaker. Pours nice clear amber with small off-white head that dissapates fairly quickly. Very little lacing, medium body, low carbonation, and corn aroma. Taste is caramel malt, metallic corn, and some nice hops. JStax hooking me up with an Arizona tick, thanks.
