Russian Imperial Stout Aged in Bourbon Barrels
This 12 month barrel-aged version of our award-winning Expedition Stout thirsts for travel, but is perfectly content to sit in your cellar, maturing, until you are ready. The tough part? Deciding if you want to enjoy it now or wait until later. You can't go wrong either way.

Bottled in Nov 2021. Enjoyed on New Year’s Eve - Pours black with a dense, one finger dark tan head. It has a very rich aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, and oaky bourbon. It has an intense, malt led flavor with chocolate, bourbon, coffee, oak, and alcohol. Superbly balanced. This is very full bodied and delicious, a world class beer that lives up to the hype.

Multiple bottles from a 4 pack from Holiday Market. Pours a deep brown to black with a tiny brown head that dissipates. Complex nose with bourbon, oak, vanilla, date and plum aromas. Warming bourbon, vanilla oak, coffee and cacao nibs. More of the same on the finish. Drinking great a 9 months old.

Older rating of the 2018 version. Deep murky brown-black body, thin, dissipating ruddy brown head. Inky nose with molasses, prune, coffee, and roasted malts. Sharp and somewhat tangy with bourbon, oak, and boozy heat. Body initially sharply boozy, subsiding to raisin, charred malts, chocolate liqueur, coffee beans, and bourbon. Marshmallowy-chewy, slick and oily. Exceptional.

Pours a thick, oily black, with very small, tan head that dissipates rapidly. Aromas of bourbon, dark fruit, coffee, licorice. Flavors follow, along with chocolate, some caramel, a touch of leather. Soft, sweet mouthfeel.

Fucking expensive 12 ounce bottle from Jim's Foodmart, 6/20/20. Black, large fizzy brown head, good retention. Aroma of... and that's a strong aroma... whiskey, vanilla, raisin, cola, roast. Taste is vanilla, roast, oak, whiskey, molasses. Full bodied, boozy but not off-putting. Strong bitterness, decent balance. It's a big boozy beer but its done well.

(Bottle , 0.375 l, thanks VastActiv, at Arde, 20200606) The beer poured black. Its head was medium sized and lightly brown. Aroma had burnt malts, vanilla and wood. Palate was full bodied, dry and warming with medium carbonation. Flavours were burnt malts, dark chocolate, vanilla, vineousness, ash and bitterness. Aftertaste had burnt malts, vanilla and bitterness. A pleasant burnt brew with barrel notes.

12 oz. bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is intensely complex, with complex bourbon, a touch of vanilla, alcohol, and a touch of roast. Flavour is loaded with bourbon barrels, medium roast, and alcohol. Decadent, complex and rich. Really nice.
