This year's unique brew is a rye barleywine. It's brewed with 50% rye malt, 50% pale malt, and hopped with Magnum hops. This BEER will gain even more character if aged properly.

Bottle. Body is a coppery orange with a bunch of tiny, champagne-like bubbles that are making their way to the surface without leaving much of a head. Aromas are sweet and have a little bit of a spicy edge to them... Flavor is definitely a little rough around the edges. There is a massive and sticky malty sweetness that has some little complex sidenotes that are dying to be heard or seen, but itโs like an elephant sitting on a group of mice. Not much is showing or squeaking from underneath the honey/mead sweet central body. Maybe a little bit of piney hops, maybe a little bit of a banana presence, but hard to tell. Iโd be interested to know if this in fact does change at all, but Iโm not going to buy another to experiment with.

This beer pours a mostly clear golden color with a thin off-white head that dissapears almost immediately.Spotty lacing on the glass. Grainy aroma with some malt and rye. Medium-bodied and moderately bitter with flavors of hops, grainy malt and light fruit. The finish is earthy malt and subtle lingering hops. Not exactly what I was expecting out of a Rye Barley Wine, but a decent enough beer.

12 oz bottle from cbkschubert; nose of vanilla, bubblegum, light fruit, and spices, orange gold with a medium yellowish head; falvor of caramel, vanilla, rye breadiness, and alcohol. Tastes more like a quad than a Barleywine to me.

Paint thinner aromas...pungent alcohol and malty...bronze color, off-white head "apple juice in a small glass"-a guest....creamy candy sweetness...creamy body, as Weyerbacher barely disappoints me...thanks beer....very enjoyable aftertaste...I detect rye, but not rye in the bread sense, more of just the seeds, soaked in alcohol....sweet touches throughout...sherry qualities, even muscat, vanilla and sweet cream

Barleywine? I donโt know. Poured from the bomber a transparent orange with a creamy off white head. Smells of spices (coriander, pine) and yeast. Flavor is flat and barnyard, the bad barnyard, with very little malt to speak of. Sticky and medicinal on the palate. A drain pour after a few sips.

Ah, another innocuous, boozy, nearly medicinal beer from Weyerbacher - this one kind of looks and tastes like a crappy, eastern-european strong lager - I tried this recently and thought it was awful, but I neglected to rate it - I bought it to drink again just so I could rate it - I am a monster!

What a beer, unique from beginning to end. Clean crisp yeasty aroma gives no hint of what strength lurks within. Slow streams of fine bubble rise to the top of this viscous brew thru the session. The appearance when poured is syrupy thick and slightly darker than pale yellow. A little scary in the look category. On the palate there is barely any carbonation. Strong whiskey impression. Reminds me of Rock and Rye. Strong liquor or wine flavor impact. Coats the palate and difficult to enjoy. Alarming volatile fumes rise from the back of the throat to great the olfactory. Very intimidating. The finish leaves a burning sensation on the tongue. Quite rude and in your face. Medicinal lingering flavors remain once you are thru. If you are a barley wine lover, better seek this out, IMHO youโll enjoy it. Itโs too much for my girlie taste buds.

It was almost good. There are some nice hops and sweet malt in there, but too much alcohol and no effort to hide it, so much so that it overwhelms all other qualities, especially flavor and palate. Cut down or hide the alcohol and this beer will be a winner.

No bouquet. Amber color medium head. Syrupy weet taste, some orange notes. Weak phenolic finish. Pretty bad.
