Bottled, thanks Baggio Almost clear pale bronze, small head. Aroma of vanilla and raspberries. Estery, thick and phenolic. Full bodied with doug hand syrup as well as sugar and bubblegum. Lots of flavour, bat lack of focus and too much sweetness reduces my enjoyment.

Similar pour to the double simcoe; mountains of creamy, well-retained head. Clear, ruby-magenta-tinged-brown.
You can really smell the rye, despite the aggressive hopping and it makes for a unique aroma. This had something like 4 or 5 months of age on it, I believe and was not an acidic mess in the nose. More floral with a strong brace of bitter orange-like citrus. Candyish, but not overbearingly sweet. Opens up with breathing, leaving vanilla, strawberry jam and alcohol.
A bit less tame in flavor, unfortunately, though I’ve had far worse experiences with barleywines. The rye helped keep the sweetness manageable, though the hop bitterness came through too much, in my opinion. As well, without any relatively soft malts, the alcohol overdried things, leaving the palate dulled on the end. Not overly complex, but had the hops been less punchy, the dryness would have been more appreciated. Don’t think I finished it.

12 oz bottle. Pours a semi-golden amber color with an extremely small white head. Aroma is sweet with minimal notes of fruit. Flavor is, well sweet. It’s not bad at all, and the alcohol is masked quite well. I have a 22 oz aging a bit longer to see how it develops down the road.

Bottle from Market Street Wine Shop Downtown Charlottesville. Golden amber pour with a medium creamy head. Low retention, decent lacing. Sour cherry and maple aroma. That same sour cherry and maple, though this time the maple is much stronger. Thick feel. An odd one for sure.

Bottle courtesy of goryshkewych: Poured a light medium copper color ale with a medium size head with average retention but some very good lacing. Aroma of sweet malt with light alcohol phenols. Taste is a mix between some sweet barleywine style malt but with the special characteristics from rye with some average hops presence. Average body with good carbonation and light apparent alcohol. Not the best from the style but an interesting experiment that may lack some complexities. I don’t know if time has done good to this beer but it was definitely better then some of the older ratings description.

Rated May 2008. Courtesy of Degarth. Thanks buddy, I can take this off my wants list. Pours clear deep gold with decent white head. The aroma is on the mild side with figs, prunes and dates for the dark fruity esters and mild malt sweetness. The taste is malty sweet and sugary malts backed by sort of evened out mild pine hops before some of the alcohol sensation grows to a tepid level. Midway I get wet sticky rye maltiness that helps balance the sweet maltiness and mild dark fruity esters.

Pours gold into a Trappist glass. No head whatsoever. Sour caramel aromas. Tastes like it smells...very slight rye flavors.

Very full-bodied, notes of caramel and fruit - overripe fruit also. A little low in carbonation. Massive alcohol in the finish. A little rough but not unpleasant. 080408

Clear golden with tiny off white head. Sweet and somewhat fruity aroma with alcohol notes. Sweet flavor with caramel, ripe fruits and alcohol notes.

12 fl oz bottle. Pours slight cloudy orange with a fully diminished white head. Slight spiced and mild citric note. Flavour is solid alcohol driven with a cornish and solid malt base. Alcohol dense finish.
