Named after Bristol’s very own giant who was partial to a well-crafted ale, this Avon IPA uses a blend of American and Worcester hops to achieve the perfect balance between stone fruit, citrus and spicy hop aromas with bitter notes. A strong, full-flavoured beer with the ABV of a classic session ale, Goram towers above other lesser IPAs.

Bottle from Tesco, Exmouth. Pours amber so doesn't look like an IPA or golden ale. Small white head. Aroma of peach, tangerine and malts. Taste is quite earthy with fruits coming through as well as caramel, malts. There is a long bitterness and a dry pepperiness in the finish. This is backed up by the right moderate level of carbonation and body. No idea what category this beer should be in but it's excellent.

500 ml bottle, from The British Corner Shop. ABV is 5%. Copper to amber colour, moderate white head. Pleasant aroma of citrussy, herbal and earthy hops. The flavour is first malty and medium dry, with hints of biscuits and toffee, followed by fruity notes, with earthy hops in the finish. A very enjoyable beer.

Bottle at home. A good pour and a rich colour in the tankard. Lots of malt that was well balanced with the bitterness and a fruity flavour. Quarter of the way through I got a huge aroma of plums that surprised the hell out of me. It only happened the once, but it was very nice.

Pint on tap at the Bower Inn, Bridgwater. Pours clear golden amber with a white top. Aroma: biscuit malts, fruity, orange rind. Taste: light sweet, light to moderate bitter, biscuit malts, peach, marmalade, citrus, grassy hop. Medium bodied, soft carb, semi dry finish. Quite pleasant but it’s never a session IPA at 5%,
