Named after Bristol’s very own giant who was partial to a well-crafted ale, this Avon IPA uses a blend of American and Worcester hops to achieve the perfect balance between stone fruit, citrus and spicy hop aromas with bitter notes. A strong, full-flavoured beer with the ABV of a classic session ale, Goram towers above other lesser IPAs.

50cl bottle from Waitrose, Sunningdale. An attractive golden amber colour with a tight white head; biscuity aroma; quite full-bodied with a biscuity malt taste, and a light grassy bitterness with a trace of citrus. More of a Golden Ale than an IPA.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up at Waitrose. Pours clear orange-gold with a foamy, white head. The nose holds crackery malts, a little orange rind, pale bread. Light sweet flavour with some rindy and husky bitterness, biscuits, hay, faint grass. Light bodied with average carbonation. Decent balance in the finish, dry pale malts, more biscuits, hay, mellow citrus rind. Not bad overall, but certainly basic.

Bottle from ASDA. Clear amber in colour, with plentiful carbonation and a slight, white, head. Aroma of tangerines, peach and melon, with some grassy hops and a hint of malty sweetness. Flavour had more citrus and stone fruits, and a touch of biscuity malt, leading to a lingering, dryish, finish with a suggestion of pine. Pleasant drinking.
