Envious is a unique beer, a hybrid of many techniques. Its high-gravity malt-fermented base is blended with Michigan pear juice and chardonnay yeast for a second fermentation, before being aged with raspberries and oak. Unlike any style or beer before it, it must be tasted to be appreciated.

Clear deep red beer, short lived pale tan head. Palate is low carbonation and just slightly dry. Raspberry juice that is lightly rounded thanks to the barrelling. Semi dry finish. Disappointing! And where is the pear?

A reddish copper brown ale with a thin off white head. In aroma, a sweet burned treacle with light molasses, and apple pulp-jelly. In mouth, a strange mix of burned caramel and apple jam, treacle, a bit strange. Bottle at Mondial 2012, June 9 2012.

Tasting at Papsø’s; vintage 2012
Dark amber color, with dark red; small head. Light aroma of blueberries, very light chocolate pralines. Medium body, with some sweetness, light blueberries, some plastic, low bitterness.
Can’t find the point.

Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of Elwood. Vintage 2012. Pours a clear deep amber with a rich beige head. Fresh, sweet berry aroma but never excessive. Medium body, fresh sweet raspberry notes, but again subtle and pleasant. A very complex beer in the making, and very complex flavours. Like it a lot! 160612
