Envious is a unique beer, a hybrid of many techniques. Its high-gravity malt-fermented base is blended with Michigan pear juice and chardonnay yeast for a second fermentation, before being aged with raspberries and oak. Unlike any style or beer before it, it must be tasted to be appreciated.

Amazing blend of pear and other fruit juices. Almost like a lambic/ale hybrid without the sourness of lambic. Purplish pour. Rated 4/10/10

Sample from bottle at Glunz Beer Expo, April 5. Nice dark brown color, but the beer has no haze. Thin layer of foam with a touch of lace. Smell has a little bit of pear, but not overwhelming. Taste has some cider to it. Very thin mouthfeel, does not seem to have any of the alcohol that it claims. I don’t know why, but I am just not as impressed as everyone else seems to be by these new New Holland beers. Pear juice flavor doesn’t stand out. I guess they wanted to match it to the malts, but they kind of both lose out that way.
