Perhaps it was just the fact that this was the only beer on at the Hanging Bat the night I was in that wasn’t hopped to high heaven, but this was exceptional. Bettered only by the same brewery’s 56 shilling. A beauty.

Caramel orange brown, hazy, thin white head with a touch of lacing
Aroma of caramel, soft smooth toffee malts, good nose
Taste of caramel malts, smooth fruity toffee, soft bitter hop, some raisin fruits, very mellow and smooth, alcohol very well hidden, super mellow flavour, great balance
Palate - Medium body, quiet oily, smooth caramel toffee on palate. Finish as main flavour with some toasted malt coming through
Overall - This was just so mellow, alcohol very well hidden, smooth, well balanced, very well made. One of the best strong ’brown’ bitters I’ve had - it comes to prove brown bitters can be done well.

Bottled@chriso. Golden colour, big fluffy white head. Aroma is fruity, floral, mild caramel, some nectar as well as some mild herbal notes. Flavour is fruity, floral, nectary, mild floral and herbal notes along with some sweet malts and mild yeastyness. Also a bit of alcohol sweetness coming through. Pleasant and balanced though.

50cl bottle. Pours cloudy orangey-brown with a generous head. The nose has salt, nuts and touch of cream. The taste has more salt and wheat with a nutty finish. The palate has more the texture and body of a Belgian Dubbel - very tangy and yeast dominated. There is also good hop bitterness. Overall, not sure this is a bitter but it is a good beer.
