The Grande Noirceur is an intensely black and dense beer with pronounced roasted flavours. The bitterness is very imposing but is balanced by a malty-caramel taste. The alcohol content is quite high, but its presence remains discrete in this beer.

Sampled from bottle at "This is not really deanso’s last THT"-tasting. Black with light tan head. Big deep roasted malts, sweet and roasty. Coffee note! Big sweet, nice bitter roast. Full body, ash in my coffee, lovely.

Sampled from bottle @ Benzai’s final THT although MrHangover thinks it’s something else. Opaque pitch black color, small dark brown head. Aroma is malts, dark malts, chocolate, roast. Taste malts, roast, a distant hint of hops, lightly chocolate and lightly roast. Decent to medium body and carbonation. Pretty nice!

Bottle from a trade with sneakychi, many thanks! Pitch black color with beige head. Aroma is roasted malts, a bit boozy, liquorice. Taste is liquorice, lots of liquorice, black chocolate, ethereal, minty. Low carbonation, feels quite light in fact, but still full bodied. Very good for what it is, but a bit too ethereal for me to be a real winner.

Bottle at home it’s been years since I had a Dieu du Ciel rate. Ink black pour. Nose is caramel and molasses. Tastes of molasses, caramel, espresso, ink, And soy sauce. Rich bodied and thick, not particularly sweet which always appreciated with this style.

almost black colour, half inch, creamy brown head; aroma of roasted nuts, some herbal notes, dark chocolate, hints of smoked cheese and some coffee, too; taste of roasted nuts, some herbal liqueur, smokey and some syrupy notes; nothing exaggerated, still not a usual imperial stout; very enjoyable

(341ml bottle from Systembolaget) Pours pitch black with a short, fine, medium-tan head. Aroma is powerfully roasty, lots of toasted malts with smoke and ash, cocoa, a bit of coffee grinds, dark rye bread, anise, dark fruit lurking behind. Flavour a bit sweeter than the nose with dark caramel malts, sugared coffee, dark bittersweet chocolate, toasted and burnt malts, slight fig. Finish has burnt malt, tar, light anise, lingering caramel sweetness behind but quite bitter overall from roast that persists long into the finish. Quite full mouth feel with smooth creamy carb and no alcohol heat. A very nice roast-driven adjunct free stout. Super sipper.
