Bottle from Tomlinson’s Beer Shop, Inverness [130213]
Golden amber, slight haze, frothy white head, some lacing
Aroma of citrus hops, soft pale malts, soft lemon
Taste of citrus hops, bit of orange zest, some bittering hops, soft cereals, nice zesty hop, soft pale malts, nicely balanced, good flavour for the abv
Palate - soft carb, bit oily texture, quite smooth. Finish as main flavour with some lingering zesty cereal bitterness
Overall - Good flavour for the abv, good for a lowish abv bottled beer - must try this on cask. 330 ml was not enough...

What is this yellow beer under the same name everyone else is reviewing? Nothing yellow about this - it’s a proper bitter! Bottle from the brewery as part of a larger case testing the new bottling line. Only criticism stems from the fact it seems to be taken off the yeast a bit early - touch of diacetyl in the nose. Good appearance, taste and finish though.

Cask handpull at Craft Beer Co. Mid clear brown colour with sparse off white head. Yes some hops but some caramel too and do I detect a hint of diacetyl? Not great nick and not my kinda beer. A smooth caramel butter affair with some bitter hops.

Cask at CPK, Pimlico on 25th May 2011. Clear copper with thick offwhite creamy head of foam. Initially quite sweet and fruity then becomes strongly malty with biscuit malts and a bitter hoppiness in mouth. Quite complex with full-mouth rounded bitterness which lingers in the aftertaste. An engaging agreeable mouthfeel. The beer for me was moreish and easy-drinking.

(Cask at The Rake, London Bridge, London, 21 May 2011) Dark amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of citrus, orange, toffee and caramel. Fruity, hoppy taste with orange, apricots, toast, marmalade and a generous, citrussy bitterness in the finish. Rather light body, with balanced sweetness. Nice and well made bitter with a fairly low abv, making it highly drinkable.

Cask at the Rake’s ’Cumbrian Beer Festival’. Amber pour with a white head. Citrus and floral aromas with hints of peaches and light herbs. Quite a bitter taste. Light flavours of pear and citrus. Bitter-hop finish.
