Cluyn or ‘Groninger Haverbier’ is a medieval beer which was famous in the ancient city of Groningen, the Netherlands. This beer is brewed following a preserved recipe from 1476. With 40% oats, this beer is notable of its fine taste and soft mouthfeel. Delicately hopped with old type ‘Fuggle’. The only beer that used to be drunk warm.

Taster at Toon van den Broek masterclass. Hazy orange with barely any head. Spicy rye, white pepper, light caramel and soft French herbs. Medium sweet, medium bodied with full sticky mouthfeel.

Bottle 330ml. @ 6th Borefts Beer Festival 2014. [ As Toon van den Broek Cluijn ].[ Courtesy of bierkoning ]. Gusher ! Clear medium amber color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, candy, brown sugar, oxidide - barnyard, horse blanket notes. Flavour is moderate sweet with a average duration, caramel, sharp, tart citrus - apple core, brown sugar - candy notes. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. [20140927]

Bottle via trade, shared at Bruce’s. Gusher! It pours murky amber with a massive off-white head. The nose is sweet apple, pear, ice tea, musty, dirt, damp leaf, filthy earth and some orange sherbet in the background. The taste is crisp, sweet-sour, appletizer, old apple, damp leaf, dirt, light mould, earth and brett with an earthy finish. Medium body and high foamy carbonation. Not nearly as sweet as I had feared. Alright, but hast a big dirty/musty thing going on.

Bottle shared in London - thanks to Paul. Pours hazy gold with a bubbly off-white head. The nose holds a bit of melon, ripe lemon, pale bread. Medium sweet flavor with a bit of tangy wood, lemon, pale bread, low acidity. Light bodied with average, massaging carbonation. Lightly drying on the finish, some old wood, light grassy bitterness. Not bad.

Bottle thnx to bierkoning ! Gusher Pours unclear amberbrown , huge white head . Smell is malty, sweet , wood ( indeed typical faro, yet more malty ) , spices, apples . Taste is bit bitter , some sourness, aromatic sweetness . Apples, tad dry . Overcarbonated . nice, I like the taste in this one . Perhaps with less carbonation this would make quite a good beer ! On the other hand, I received this bottle in September on BBF , and than lost it in my ollection. You should drink a faro as fresh as possible anyway since otherwise the carbonation builds up to high .. So this might deserve a re-rate

Borefts VI. Day 2. Bottle thanks to Edo. Lightly hazy amber beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is light and semi dry, fine carbonation. Airy malts, light floralness, pretty mild gueueze sourness. Airy dry finish. It’s pretty mellow and doesn’t deliver the sweet and sour punch I would like from a Faro, but it’s fine.

Bottle shared at BBF 6, thanks to Edo, 27/09/14. Murky orange amber with a moderate light beige covering. Nose is woody, bitter orange, spice, musty. Taste comprises dank wood, lemon rind, apple core, damp hay, musty wash. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, semi drying close with a sweet and sour wash. So so.

Amber colour, white head. Bit of a gusher. Malty aroma, light funk, biscuit, light caramel and lemon. Light sweet, light sour flavour, malts, wild yeast notes. Light sour finish, caramel. Interesting and nice.

Thank you Martinus! Bottle sampled @ Borefts 2014. Hazy orange with no head. Lots of hay, orange, caramel. Taste is sweetish tart lambic, hazy orange, caramel, light tart, soft sweetness. Creamy body. Enjoyable for sure.
