Hazy tan. Large head. The aroma is very yeasty, somewhat floral and maybe a little bit gin-like. Quite herbal on the palate, with fruity juniper character and sweet if slightly thick malts. A more refreshing fruity and slightly spicy finish.

Location: Draft at Rogue in San Fran, 5/12/11
Aroma: The nose is fairly hoppy, some herbal and wood notes, and a touch of booze
Appearance: It pours a mostly clear golden color with a small white head to it
Flavor: The taste is lightly sweet, with a light-mid hop presence, and a touch of booze
Palate: The body is medium, it has a decent dryness, it drinks alright, and has a touch of heat
Overall Impression: Overall, I thought this was some pretty good stuff. Eventhough you can taste barrel it is not overwhelming, which is can be in many barrel aged pale ale (or similar) beers. Anyway, I thought it worked pretty well.

Sample at the brewpub in Portland. Cloudy golden color. Aroma of pine and light spice. Taste of lemon lime and pine needles. Decent.

Bottle. Poured a golden orange/medium-copper color, thick and fluffy, quickly receding white head. Aroma was not very strong, it was actually kind of plain, maybe a bit like the regular Dead Guy, but I wasn’t picking up on too many juniper/gin notes. The flavor though, woah. If you don’t like Gin, this is not for you. This was great. Berries, juniper, touch of oak vanilla. Finish is gin.

On Tap at Bailey’s Taproom 3rd Anniversary celebration. Pours out a golden topped with a ring of a head. Aroma was of juniper, pine, citrus, lemon zest, and some malt. Taste was more of the pine and hop notes along with a nice light sweetness

In celebration of Repeal Day. Pours clear orange amber. Nose and taste of gin, juniper, berries and spice. Finish is gin. Smoother than expected.

Draft @ Bavarian Lodge. $5 pint spiffily poured by my host, to present a cloudy, honey colored pale ale under a white, half-finger head. Light pale ale hop nose, and I do detect a bit of gin spices. First up in the taste, is some pine, maybe more from the spruce barrel than from hops? Some dry spiciness, though not what I’d call a "ginny" taste. Rather, some herbal liqueur notes. A nice fit as a spice beer; some fruity finish and slightly tart aftertaste.

Sample at Jackie O’s BBDA and Oil of Aphrodite Release and Barrel aged Beer Festival on 9/11/10. The beer is a cloudy orange color with a thin off-white head that dissipates steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Floral aroma with notes of hops and berries. Medium body with flavors of berries, pine and hops. The finish is floral hops and fruit with a slight woody note left behind. Decent beer overall.

Courtesy of matta. Thanks! Pours hazy deep gold with white head. The aroma is herbally, floral, spices and sweet malts mixing with tangelo. Interesting. The taste is a nice mix of grapefruit, tangelo, light malt sweetness, spices, some herbs and then rolling into a modest wood like spicy note. Around the edges I get a sense of Gin. It ends pretty darn dry.
