Pale ale brewed with juniper berries and aged in spruce gin barrels. John John is a pale ale of saffron color with a smooth malt balance; a floral aroma with a dry spicy finish from whole juniper berries

Bottle. Pours with a hazed golden body and a white head that fizzes away. Aroma of grass, fruit, pepper and a light sweetness. Light gin like qualities I guess. Taste is sweet, lemon grass, fruity, lightly tart/lactic, tannic, bitter, lemony. Good (I actually like the taste quite a bit). Spicy and fruity. Lively bubbles, dry. Interesting.

Pours gold into a shaker. Bright white head macro with excellent retention recedes leaving no lacing. Mild citrus and juniper aromas. Sweet malts upfront with a juniper berry middle which turns dry and citrusy in the lasting finish.

Sampled on draft at Smokin’ Joes in Pittsburgh PA this beer poured a medium amber colro with a small off white head that lingered and produced some lacing. The aorma was sour nut, faint fruity hops and a faint vague perfumey note. The flavor was bitter and sour with notes of nut, perfume, rough fruity hops and faint wood. The finish was sour, bitter and lightly fruity with a touch of canadian whiskey. Thick body. Disappointing.

Served on draft at Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA on 4/30/10. Pours a hazy pale golden color with a thin head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of big bitter, floral juniper with some toasted malts. The taste is toasted malts with big juniper notes, minty hops and light fruity notes. Medium bodied. Pretty tasty beer.

My future wife had this while on vacation at the Rogue Bed & Beer in Newport, OR. I had a bit of this, and it was very good stuff. Aroma is kinda like fish, which I guess smells like junipers, but if anything it’s very sea-like. Appearance is a very vibrant gold with little head. Taste is kinda creamy but thin with light fruit undertones, also kind of sour. Very good though.

On tap at the Alibi Room, pours golden. Aroma of juniper berries and grass. Flavour is similar, with pale malts and some floral notes. Not bad.

Tap at Blind Tiger. Pours a slightly cloudy gold with a proud, white head. Mostly traditional malt aroma, with some floral hops. Flavor begins with with a sweet maltiness, followed by a restrained hop presence. Only in the finish do the juniper berries come forth, generating a truly unique, spicy and fruity character. Light to medium in body with modest carbonation. A very nice, distinct beer.
