Draught. Black colour, brown head that lasts quite long and shows fair lacing. Aroma is prune, cherry, burnt sugar. Medium sweetness, lightly sour. Full body, lively carbonation. I didn’t like it at all - too much sweetness and nothing interesting in the aroma.

Aroma: caramel and sweetness. Pours dark red-brown, nice white head. Head never really disappear. Medium carbonation. Taste: burnt sugar is really dominating here, very sweet, some caramel bitterness and hints of sourness. Overall: looks really great and smells good. I think it’s little bit out of balance, burnt sugar is just dominating over everything else. It’s also just little too sweet for my taste.

50cl bottle at Riga Airport. Pours clear copper coloured with an off-white head. Malty aroma with caramel and hints of toast, spices and chocolate. Medium sweet with nice malty flavours and a hint of alcohol. Finishes lightly dry with a fairly balanced bitterness. Quite nice.

500ml bottle from Riga. Cherry coloured body and intricate lacing. Sweet prunes, cookies, chocolate, dates, prunes. raspberries and roasted nuts with a caramel finish. Just a tad too sweet, maybe. Shared with Rune, Stefan and Jan Erik 22.03.12 at our From Lativia with Alus Session

Big pale brown lasting head. Clear brown body with carbonation. Grainy caramelly taste with earthy spicy notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dry roasty caramelly earthy aftertaste with dusty rye crisp bread notes. Nice, drinkable, unusual. Vivid, too. (0.3l draft at Valmiermuizas alus tirgotava, Riga.)

500 ml bottle shared at Beer session XIX in Tromsø 220312. Large and frothy beige/tan head that slowly dissolves leaving some fragmented lacing. Medium strength aroma of sweet, dark fruits and roasted caramel. Similar but more hearty flavour with some hops as well. Another nice label from Valmiermuizas befitting one of the more interesting Latvian breweries, of which this beer is a good example.

Bottled 500ml (Stockmann Tallinn, BB 05/2012)
Deep ruby color, small beige head. Toasted coffeish and caramelly aroma with some diacetyl. Medium-bodied. Sweetish, chocolaty flavor. Toasted notes, light tartness in the aftertaste. Not much diacetyl in flavor. Aftertaste has caramel and some bitterness. Good German-style dunkel. One of the best Latvian beers I’ve had (the bar is not very high with Latvian beers).

Bottled (thanks Tasogare!). Deep ruby red colour, mediumsized beige head. Aroma is sugary, mild toast and some mild saccharine sweetness. Flavour is quite similar and overly sweet.
