Crisp, smooth and perfectly balanced between a west coast style pale and amber ale, with a supple malt sweetness and a pronounced hop flourish.

Bottle. Pours a a clear dark brown with a red hue and a brown head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma has a strong a caramel note with backing notes of plum and dates with a hint of alcohol. Flavor starts with strong sweet grains and caramel with a good amount of alcohol and backing figs.

Draught, Avenue Pub. Very dark brown. Not much head. Burly molasses and sweet malt aroma combines impy and barley wine. Both oily and inky. Rich chocolate, intense molasses and dark sugar. Rich. Dark prunes, plums. Only a little bit of alcohol and not too sweet in the finish. Good brew, very intense. Plays to He’Brew’s strengths I think.

22 oz. bottle, split 4 ways, pours a dark brown with a reddish hue and a small, quickly-dissipating tan head. Aroma of pomegranate, dates, figs, grapes, treacle toffee, and subtle rye notes, though not heavily pronounced on the nose. Flavour is extremely rich and complex, with the above-mentioned dried fruits, brandy / sherry, booze--but well-integrated considering this is 13.4%, but the barrels are not really noticeable at all. Rich and complex, with a sticky, syrupy palate. A slow sipper -- this is extremely well-made.

Tap @ Freshcraft. Deep brown appearance with a medium sized, cream, light bubbly, brown head. Lots of toasty, caramel malt, toffee, chocolate, fig, leather in the nose with a hint of booze. Creamy, a touch syrupy mouth feel. Rich toffee, caramel malty, leather, fig, dark plum, dark fruity flavor with a fairly sweet finish that’s warming. Warming all the way down to my stomach- great sipper for the cool weather.

Bomber pours a deep mahogany with infra red edges and full half inch mocha head. The aroma is full and pulsating with sweet vanilla, spicy rye bread, whiskey booze and spicy oak. Behind those notes lurk the pomegranate juice, molasses and sticky malts. The taste is all over the place even with its feel and palate starting smooth and velvety and heading into brash and bold and big (full of bigness, this). I get sweet pomegranate juice that gets a bit tart to midway and then explodes with slick molasses, fresh oak, spicy brown sugar and vanilla covered oak, spicy rye whiskey booze, black strap molasses and chocolate. Goodness! This is all sorts of bigness from all points of view. This should be interesting as all the notes blend and smooth out with age.
