Oasis is a Double ESB/IPAish beer that came about from playing around with one of Jeff’s favorite homebrew recipes. Here at Tallgrass we love malt and we love hops, and this beer has both of them in record quantities; well, at least records for our baby brewery.
At a hefty 7.2% ABV and 93 IBU, Oasis is a big beer that has to be priced a bit higher than our regular line of beers. We think that once you taste the over-the-top hops and surprisingly sturdy malt backbone you will realize why it’s worth it.
Definitely not a fruit-extract seasonal shandy, this beer is meant to be enjoyed on the back porch, the front porch, or even on the stoop. What’s a stoop? Well, it’s a good place to drink beer, is what it is.

Black Hills Beer Fest - Muddy brown copper pour with a decent beige head. Lightly fruity and floral bitters aroma followed by a big bitter taste. Florals, citrus, and caramel. ** Re-rate 12/6/13: I’ve had this many times now and really find it to be quite refreshing. A fresh can yields heavy florals and citrus, good interaction with the malt base. A little more intense than what I’d call sessionable, but I really like having fresh pint cans available of what they’re labeling an imperial ESB. Solid stuff and its become my favorite Tallgrass brew.

16 ounce can shared at the 5th Annual Epic Beer Tasting in Richmond, VA, November 28, 2010. Pours a hazy dark amber color with a medium sized creamy offwhite head. Good head retention and lacing. Nutty aroma with caramel and grainy notes. The taste is bitter leafy hops, caramel, toffee, apple. Medium bodied.

Deep golden color, white edge head. Nice aroma of pine forests. Taste is very bitter, lots of resin, dry finish. Tasty.

16oz can. Thick, orange-brown, with a creamy off white/beige head. Nice floral hop aroma. Thick and full bodied, with a toasty sweet malty taste and a solid hop backbone. A little mellow on the carbonation, which helps give it an English feel I suppose. The hops and ABV let you know this is all American, with a resiny thick finish. Well done, enjoyable beer.

Can from Wine & Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours hazy copper amber with a yellow/white head. Lots of hop in the aroma. Med body/mild carb. Flavor is a pretty strong dose of mild roast caramel with a large amount of hop. Floral/resin/citrus. The bitter really shows up strong in the finish. Good brew.

Can shared at the September 2010 Metro Detroit tasting. Poured a slightly hazy orange amber with a white head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma was nice pine with some cereal backing it up. Flavor had quite strong pine that mellowed slightly to allow the cereal backbone to come out.

Can thanks to LtDan. Really? A 7.3% 93IBU ESB? Pours with a hazed amber-orange hue and a tan head that fades in the time it takes to write this sentence. Aroma of hops: pine, orange peel, toffee and cake. Smells a bit like a faded DIPA. Taste is hoppy, pine, bitter, malty. A bit astringently bitter. Some orange. Kind of a messy/faded IPA more than a bitter, although there is plenty of lingering bitterness. Malt profile is nice though. Bready with some caramel on the finish. Clean on that account. Even if the brewer was going for something else, this comes across as a faded and underattenuated IPA.

Can at 33 Wine Shop & Tasting Bar in St. Louis. The beer is a clear dark copper color with a thin and foamy light beige head that burns away steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. The aroma is equally hoppy and malty, along with a hint of fruit. Medium body with a piney hops character and sweet toasted malt and fruit flavors. The finish is moderately hoppy with a lingering bitterness. An interesting sort of hybrid but just a little above average overall.

Pour is a murky brown with a small tan head. Aroma is a sweet sticky malt followed by a hop presence. Flavor is earthy malt with a nice hop to round things out. Leaves a little dark fruit on the tounge as this goes down. Decent example of the style.

#100 brewed in Kansas rating. 16 oz pint can purchased at Lukas Overland Park, Kansas. Pour is slightly hazed golden ruby with a nicely formed two inch tan head. Very nice looking in my pint mug. Aroma is bright clean fresh pine hops, behind that is a nice toasted malt smell. Fresh and clean nose. Taste is the nose, starts with the big hoppy pine, followed close behind by the toasted ever so slightly sweet maltiness. Flavors are nicely balanced, and the finish is crisp and dry. Palate is medium to light, prickly carbonation and the aforementioned bitter dry finish. The aftertaste is a nice flinty mineral aspect that really works for me. I really enjoyed this one.
