12 oz. bottle, sent from northernbrews (thanks a lot, Jeff), pours a deep dark, dark mahogany / brown with a small beige head. Nose is full of candied sugar and Belgian yeast - smells authentic enough. Flavour reveals the same candied sugar notes, with lots of Belgian yeast, caramel and a bit of banana. Quite lively carbonation, which is noticeable right at the beginning of the first sip. Not very complex - quite simplistic, with the candied sugar dominating, though it is by no means cloying. Decent Americanized dubbel.

Bottled. A red-brown beer with a thin tan head. The aroma has notes of honey, alcohol, caramel, and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of brettanomyces, caramel, alcohol, malt, and honey, leading to a dry alcoholic finish.

Bottle from Half Time. Pours dark brown with a slight tan head. Aroma is darkly vegetal and malty. Full bodied, almost. No heat to speak of. Flavor is sort of cola with some noble hop. A wannbe dark barley wine. Very interesting.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, winter 2011 bottling. Pours hazy dark brown color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense dark khaki head with good retention that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Some spotty lacing on the glass. Aromas of big banana, raisin, molasses, plum, caramel, bread, dark candi sugar, clove, light chocolate, and yeast spices. Nice, well balanced, and fairly complex aromas; with decent strength. Taste of banana, raisin, plum, caramel, toasted grain, dark candi sugar, light chocolate, molasses, and yeast spices. Lingering notes of caramel, dark fruit, molasses, and yeast spices on the finish for a bit. Much more sweetness over the yeast spices; but is not cloying at all. Nice flavor balance. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a creamy and slick mouthfeel. Alcohol is very well hidden for 10% with hardly any warming after the finish noticed. Overall this is a very nice and enjoyable Belgian strong dark ale. Nice balance and complexity; and very smooth for a 10% beer.
