Donkere Stoere 8.2%

One of DijkWaert’s first, presented as a stout but rather a Scotch style ale - in fact, no stout at all, which already makes me a bit suspicious about this brewery’s knowledge. Anyway, a bronze coloured beer with light beige, quickly dissolving head and an aroma of caramel, coffee grounds, dates, bread, walnuts, a bit harsh; dried fruity taste, sharpish malts, a bit grainy, caramelly, with roasted bitterness in the finish but insufficiently hopped and therefore on the thin and watery side. Like the other DijkWaert brews I tasted so far, this still needs a lot of work - and stop calling it a stout!

Bottle 750ml.Clear medium to dark red amber colour with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, spicy, light to moderate rubber - plastic, light to moderate yeasty, phenol, citrus. Flavour is moderate sweet and light moderate bitter with a average to long duration, moldy, phenol. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft - fizzy. [20120331]

Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of fonefan. Pours an almost clear amber with a creamy beige head. Odd farty aroma. Medium body, some sweet caramel, phenols and a lightly fusty farmhouse touch. Ends fairly dry and bitter. 310312

Bottle @ FOneFan. Dark amber/red with medium off-white head. Aroma is malt, fruit, hops, yeast and spices. Flavour is malt, yeast, fruit, little sweet, spices, phenols, high carbonation, caramel, hops and a little bitter.

Bottle @ fonefan tasting. Hazy redddish amber with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, phenols, yeasty and spicy. Flavor is medium sweet and moderate bitter. Dry and moderate bitter finish. 310312

Bottle @ Fonefan tasting. Nice head with good duration. Color is amber. Aroma and taste are malt, caramel, fruits and hops. High carbonation.

75 cL bottle. Pours clear and golden amber with a small tan head. Aroma is yeasty and light spiced. Bitter, toasted malty and distinct fruity flavoured. Ends dry, bitter and light fruity.
