A blackened version of Mad Hatter brewed with black malt for a dark, roasty sweetness to the base of the flavor profile. Finishes with a strong Centennial hop character from dry hopping.

From the July 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured an almost black color with a medium sized foamy beige head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was floral and roasty. The flavor was dry, floral, roasty and very bitter with a touch of vanilla. The finish was long, dry, roasty and floral. Medium body. Typical for style meaning it sucked.

On draught at Gallo’s Tap Room. The beer pours dark brownish-black with a medium tan head that recedes steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of toasted malt and hops. Light to medium body with flavors of roasted malt, piney hops and caramel. The finish is sweet with an earthy malt aftertaste. Decent overall.

Whole Foods, P St DC 650ml ($5): Pours dark brown with a long-lasting off-white head. Aroma is straight IPA: citrusy juicy hops. Taste is hoppy at the front and it sustains throughout. The roast does not come in very much. The body is pretty light and it does not feel like you are drinking much at all. The hoppy and roasty aftertaste lingers for quite a bit. There is a general undertone of porter throughout, but it is not particularly powerful. This is an OK Black IPA, but it is really not that good.

Bottle @ home, courtesy of jcnielsen. Thanks Jetson! Dark brown appearance with a light brown head. Charred dark malty, a bit smoky, light tar, piney, a bit fruity, odd aroma. Tangy, charred, roasty malty, a bit fruity, organic hoppy flavor. Not good now and I can’t imagine it was much better fresh.
