Imperial IPA Aged in Bourbon Barrels

Doom may be impending but that doesn’t mean you have to fear it. A collision of worlds, the intense hop character of our imperial IPA mingles with the warm vanilla and oak notes imparted from time spent in our favorite bourbon barrels. Like all good things, Doom comes to those who wait.

From a 22 oz bottle shared at Ryan’s. Pours a clear dark gold with a white head. Piney hop aroma. Complex flavors with the bourbon barrel notes dominating. Oaky vanilla, bitter finish.

Hazy gold beer. Little white head. A little orange cream on the nose. Softish palate, a little syrupy and dry. Wonderful hops - orange, pineapple and pine which are all wrapped in a honey sweetness. Finishes soft and dry with bitter marmalade flavours and a pinch of black pepper. A marvellous sweet bitter fruity DIPA. Top drawer!

Courtesy of markwise. It pours clear gold with white head. The aroma is pretty full and robust with sweet vanilla – bourbon and oak followed by some hop like spiciness. The taste is similar with yummy rich thick spicy to pine to grassy hops that run up and cover over the various oak – vanilla – bourbon barrel notes.

Thanks to Rogueone for sharing a hand-bottled...bottle. Pours a hazy orange color with a thin bone white head that burns away to a film fairly quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Hoppy aroma that has woody and citrusy notes. Rich body with flavors of vanilla, honey, bourbon, resiny hops and citrus. The finish is oaky vanilla and hops with a lingering boozy aftertaste. Very good overall.

cheers to markwise for opening this one. pours golden, light white head. Aroma is loaded with grapefruit goodness. Booze really comes thru the aroma along with what could be seen as some barrel aging. Flavors, lots of bourbon right up front, nice touch of barrel and wood immediately followed by a ton of grapefruit and other citrus. All this hop bittering is perfectly balanced with a nice caramel/malty profile that follows every sip and meshes together with a mild bitter hoppy finish. The abv and bourbon barrel is just crazy in this beer although not overpowering the whole experience. This is one tasty brew.

Draft at brewery. Clear orange colour, small off-white head. Aroma is fruity, with floral hops, vanilla and bourbon. Flavour of floral hops, citrus, bourbon. The sweet bourbon and bitter hops don’t mix well.

On tap at the MBG Summer Festival. Poured a foggy yellowish gold with an off-white head. Aroma consisted of citrus hops and some sweetness from the bourbon aging. Nice hoppiness but also had a sweet flavor. Could have been a bit more aggressive with the hops.

On tap at Founders. Medium orange, hazy body, thin off-white head. Big, potent bourbon nose with notes of apricot, vanilla, and oak. The palate is bourbon-driven at serving temperature, but the big, bright, grapefruit rind hops and sweet, sugary, caramely malts dominate the beer at warmer temperatures. Warming alcohol notes and bitter rindy hops finished the sip. Excellent beer.
