Imperial IPA Aged in Bourbon Barrels

Doom may be impending but that doesn’t mean you have to fear it. A collision of worlds, the intense hop character of our imperial IPA mingles with the warm vanilla and oak notes imparted from time spent in our favorite bourbon barrels. Like all good things, Doom comes to those who wait.

Gut. 12/11/10/10/11/10

Pours hazy apricot with a frothy, light tan head. Strong grapefruit and pine aroma....wood. Taste is citrus, vanilla, oak and malt. More barrel than bourbon......but it works very well. A pleasure.

Pours a slightly hazy dark straw color with a decent white head that is fed by a constant stream of carbonation bubbles. Aroma’s of juicy fruits, lemon and citrus with a solid bready caramel to back it up. Very subtle woody aroma takes some concentration to find underneath some pine resin and citrus. The flavor holds a lot more wood than I could find in the aroma. Sweet caramel malt gives way to sweet bourbon and vanilla up front. A bit of bourbon and alcohol usher in a bitter resinous hop bite about midway through. Long lingering alcohol, oak tannin, and resinous hop bitterness after each sip. Medium to thick body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet burning alcohol mouthfeel. Nice IPA mash-up. The Barrel aging adds lots of complexity, but also a bit of harsh alcohol at times. Not something I’d drink every day but I’m glad I got to try it.

Is it a 750ml bottle or 22oz? I can’t tell. Pours a light orange with some tight white head. Hope you like vanilla because it explodes into your face, some tropical fruit, some malt, some citrus but mostly just a vanilla bomb. Flavor is the same, not as one note as the nose, but still heavy vanilla, honey, some citrus, some candy, a little wood, but mostly vanilla. Full, sticky finish.

Bought a bottle of this at Churchkey because I had heard it was .rar - sold out in my area in an hour or so. Well, gotta be good, right? Well, not bad but a little too one-note unfortunately for me. Poured a seriously copper color with a white head. Aroma was tons of bourbon notes, touch of vanilla and heavy malts. Bourbon makes this one a little too one-note. I like it, but it takes Double Trouble and reduces it a bit instead of building it up to be something more. Wish it was a little less boozy. Might as well just have a nice IPA and a tumbler of a nice bourbon.

Bottle. Orange, grapefruit peel, and caramel malt aroma. Golden yellow with small head. Sweet vanilla-caramel malt and moderately bitter grapefruit peel flavor. Nice blending of malt and hops.

Bottle share at DLD. Sweet oaky vanilla and caramel malt aroma. Clear golden with a small head. Sweet caramel malt, oak, and vanilla flavor. Body on the heavier side of medium, soft carbonation. Honestly, when I first heard the description of this one I thought it sounded incredibly gross. So, I was really surprised at how quite good it was.

Shared bomber, snifter glass. Started off with it a bit too chilly, but it still presented a nice aroma: bourbon and malt but not burning or slapping me upside the head. The taste: on one hand the bourbon tells me that it will kick my ass and slowed down my sipping; on the other hand the nice bourbon and malts combined for a smoothness and great taste that lured me in. The hops were there, but the bourbon knocked them down on the palate; also had oak and vanilla. I really, really, really enjoyed this.

Draft. Hazy golden yellow, small white head, solid lacing. Aroma of vanilla, bourbon. Taste is mostly bourbon, a bit of vanilla, white wine. I don’t fully understand aging IPAs or DIPAs, but there you go.
