Imperial Chocolate Pumpkin Ale. Just before the Civil War, a pumpkin blight bleached the Commonwealth's crop white, turning the gourds into twisted, fermenting skulls in the fields. This chai-spiced ale is brewed in remembrance of "the year of the twisted gourd," pairing pumpkin puree with cacao to create a unique ale which won South Street a silver medal at the 2016 Great American Beer Festival!

10oz draft pour at Bilbo Baggins. Poured a copper color, with a very small white head. Aroma was mostly spices - lots of allspice in this one, some tea notes, and a touch of cinnamon. Flavor had some anise, cinnamon, nutmeg. A lot more pumpkin spice notes, but I thought it was very pleasant and would drink again.

12 ounce bottle. Hazy brown, large foamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of chai, vanilla, pumpkin, a faint bit of chocolate. The taste is pumpkin, ginger, chai, vanilla. Mildly tart finish. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, delicious.
