A Rauch Beer lager brewed in the true Bamberg tradition. Smooth, assertive and well balanced. This beer was the winning recipe from the Norwegian homebrewer’s championship in 2011. We appreciate the fact that Erlann Eldorsen came to brew with us! Ingredients: Pilsnermalt, peated malt, crystal malt, Munich malt, hallertau and Tettnang hops, German lager yeast and Grimstad water.

Bottle at Bishops Arms, Vasagatan, Stockholm, January 2012. (my Nøgne Ø rating number 40) Dark brown with a minimal head. Medium smoky aroma with some chocolate, sausage and wood. The body was on the thin side, the mouth feel was soft. A descent smoked beer but not as tasty as the best ones from Germany.

Bottled at Bishop’s Arms Folkungagatan, Stockholm. Clear dark brown, small coarse head. Intense meaty smoke with a surprising touch of menthe. Dryish with medium body andn relaxed, soft mouthfeel. Quite intense woody meaty smoke, grassy hops just support. Mid bitter finish. Delicious!

500ml Bottle - Very dark brown in colour. Smoky aroma with notes of chocolate and liquorice. Sweet, smoky, chocolatey and slightly hoppy taste with notes of roasted malt, liquorice and plain chocolate.

50cl bottle. Pours opaque charcoal with a nice sized head, some of which hangs about. The nose is lightly smokey malt and bacon. The taste has beautifully intermingled lemon and smokey oats. The palate is medium bodied with a medium thick texture but a lovely clean finish. Overall, this is a lovely balanced beer.

Medium beige head. Hazy deep dark red barely translucent body. Roasty caramelly smoky aroma with juniper and wild berry notes. Dry-sweet smoky grainy earthy taste with juniper and wild berry notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel, low on CO2. Dryish roasty smoky aftertaste with grainy resiny notes. Long, lingery peaty finish. Nice, harmonic, and understated. (0.5l bottle, Grünerløkka Bryghus, Oslo. Batch #677. Had it keg at Oslo Beer Festival, and liked it better there.)

500 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Batch #677. ABV is 6%. Very dark brown colour, nearly black. Moderate beige head. Aroma of smoked malts, a hint of roasted malts / coffee in the background. The flavour is fairly smooth, with some mild roasty notes and hints of coffee and chocolate - and plenty of smoke, of course. I am no fan of extremely smoked lagers, but this one is not too extreme. Fairly drinkable, but probably not a beer I’ll buy very often.

Pours black with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt and a little peat smoke. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with a long roasted light smoked finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Bottle at Patricks. A finger-thick beige head sits on top of of an unclear brown body. Smoked, lightly meaty or ham like aroma with a pleasant orange peel like touch. Some pine cones. Some sweetness on the palate, but it’s quite dry. Lightly bitter and roasted. Would maybe like it a bit more smoked. Anyway, a nice beer indeed. Combines hops and smoke very nicely. 111102
