Isis is synonymous with rowing. It is the name given both to the River Thames as it flows through Oxford and to one of Oxford University’s rowing boats that competes in the epic clash simply known as "The Boat Race". The origin of Isis Pale Ale lies in English IPAs and American Pale Ale. This beer has been crafted with fruity European hops to complement Crystal and golden malted barleys, then dry hopped with American citrus hops for an excellent finish. Isis Pale Ale is a transatlantic tipple that, like the best boat race crews, is truly greater than the sum of its parts.

50cl bottle thanks to Lewis. Pours honey brown and thin lace head. The nose has toffee and crunchie bar even. The taste has more of the toffee. The palate is medium bodied, medium textured and has a clean finish. Overall, a well made bitter.

(Bottle, 0.5 l - BBE Feb 2012, courtesy of rosenbergh, 20120320) The beer poured pale amber and clear. Its head was small and white. Aroma had malts, paper, caramel and herbalness. Palate was medium bodied with lowish carbonation. Flavours were herbalness, fruitiness, malts, caramell, bisquit and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty, sweet and bitter. I don’t know how this beer would have been like had it been fresher. Now, when past its best before date, it was quite odd brew.

50cl bottle from Westholme Stores, Goring. Amber with a thin cream head; the aroma is predominantly of stewed malts, but with perhaps a whiff of citrus; in the mouth it’s dry with caramel malt flavours and some spicy hops giving a dry and bitter finish. Promising, but over pasteurised - I’ll look out for the cask version.

Cask (gravity) @ The 17th Reading Beer and Cider Festival 2011, Reading, Berkshire England.Clear medium amber orange colour with a small to average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted, light to moderate hoppy, citrus. Flavor is moderate sweet and light moderate bitter with a average to long duration, dry, fruity - tobacco. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20110429]
