Pretty decent saison. Pours light cloudy gold with ok lacing and head. Soft carbonation. Has a tiny bit of barnyard aroma with some hops. Light dose of wine chardonnay as well. Finishes a little sour with good balance overall. Tap at Barhop.

(Draught at Bryden’s, Toronto ON, June 16th 2013) Pours a clear deep gold with a tiny, fine white head with lace. I let this beer warm a fair bit before sampling and that really brought out the barrel. Aroma is almost unbelievably good extraction of barrel character, like a good oaked chard made with a more funky, barnyard-heavy yeast than most wines. The palate follows the nose, with an oaky buttery chardonnay character complimented by some earthy yeast and faint grains. The grain comes through a bit more in the finish along with a little light hop bitterness, just to reinforce that you’re not drinking wine, but the barrel character definitely lingers fairly prominently all the way through the finish. If you don’t like oaked white wine you probably won’t like this. Carbonation is quite restrained, body moderate to high for a saison. I love this beer.
