Medium beige head. Hazy opaque dark brown body. Funky roasty bubblegum aroma with chemical pine needle notes. Strange aroma. Dry-sweetish, and somewhat acidic, roasty mealy taste. Mid-to-thin body. Sharpish mouthfeel. Dryish-acidic burnt papery resiny aftertaste with mealy notes. This was not really very pleasant. Not sure what’s the cause of the problem. (0.5l bottle, Meny Ringnes Park, Oslo. Batch #704.)

Bottle 500ml.Light unclear matt medium to dark amber and red - orange colour with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, nutty, spicy, moderate hoppy, orange - citrus, moderate yeasty, spicy, wood, date. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20111126]

500 ml bottle. A brown body with a nice, lasting, big, creamy beige head. Aroma has chocolate, malt and a bit nutty. Flavor is sweet malt, chocolate, brown sugar, some fruit, yeast and relatively moderate bitterness and hint of spices. Body is medium to thin. First sip is fine, and then there seems to lack some depth as the beer feels more average after a while. I miss the 2011 version with smoked malt.

Bottled (from K CM Kivihaka, Vaasa). Very deep ambery murky brown colour with a mediumsized beige foamy head that leaves a bunch of lace. Aroma is mild toasted nuttyness, some bready malts as well as some quite strong hoppy notes. Flavour is fruity, caramelly, mildly toasted and fruity as well. Also some slight yeastyness.

Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of fonefan. Pours a cloudy opaque orangey brown with a creamy off-white head. There’s a slight tartness to the nose and a coffeeish edge. Medium body, dry almost coffeeish roast. Malt bitter finish. 261111

Bottle @ Early Winter Gathering season 11/12, Ulfborg. Pours dark ruby amber with a small white head. Sweet , spicy and yeasty nose. Flavor is spices and caramel. Medium bodied. A bit ashy. Ends really dry with some chili prickling on the tongue.

500 ml bottle, from Vaaland, Bryne. 2011 version with Belgian yeast. Batch #704B. ABV is 4.5%. Cloudy brown colour, large beige head. Sourish aroma, infected? Also strong woody and ashy / smoked notes. The flavour is first somewhat better than the aroma, quite dry, again strong woody notes, hints of ashes. Some roasted malts and hops in the finish. Seems overall unbalanced. Thin mouthfeel. Becomes dull in the end. Drinkable, but this is Nøgne Ø, and you expect something better than this. Won’t buy again (not untill a better version - hopefully - is released next year).

0.5l bottle @ Henrik, Bergen. Finally! It pours a deep brownish body with a nice medium off-white head. The aroma has light tones of cocoa and chocolate. Also spices like cardamom, some chocolate ice cream and a hint of cardboard. It has a average to soft carbonation level and a mild oily to watery mouthfeel. Nice dry and chocolate/cocoa flavors. It's missing some body to be really great, (but for that you have it's big brother God Jul) but it's still a really nice Christmas beer and by far the best Norwegian Christmas beer for the Norwegian store marked ! Have to get me a few bottles of this one before it's all gone.
