6/9/2024. Cask at the 37th Chappel Summer Beer Festival. Pours dark chestnut brown with a small bubbly off-white head. Aroma is malty, cooking chocolate, caramel, biscuit, dried fruits. Moderate sweetness, medium bitterness. Moderate body, slightly oily, average to soft carbonation. Quite likeable.

Cask at Brunswick, Derby. Pours a dark reddish-brown with minimal off-white head and good lacing. There’s malts and some hints of floral hops in the aroma. Dark fruits are prominent in the mouth alongside roast malts and raisins plus hints of berries and aniseed. Dried fruit lingers in the finish. Not at all bad, but I wouldn’t class it as a bitter. Maybe a mild or old ale ?

Cask (Oliver Twist, Stockholm) - Black in colour. Stewed fruits and some roasted notes in the aroma. Roasted and slightly hoppy taste with notes of coffee and berries.

Cask at Southampton Arms. Dark red brown colour with golden head. Aroma is hoppy, touch of stink, citrus and a bit of creaminess. Taste is bitter, creamy and lemony, not much roast. Bit fruity towards the end, maybe orange and strawberry. More of a black coloured IPA, than a black IPA, if that makes sense. --- Beer merged from original tick of Black Gold on 09 Sep 2019 at 16:06 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 7 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 7. (Cask at St Urhos Pub, 20181126) The beer poured deep reddish brown and clear. Its head was small, nearly white and it lasted long. Aroma had pine, earth, caramel and toasted malts. Palate was medium bodied with low carbonation. Flavours were pine, earth, grass, toasted malts, caramel and bitterness. Aftertaste was hoppy and bitter. A pleasant hoppy brew with toasted malts.
