Altbier is a German ale, which literally means old beer. This is not referring to the age of the beer but rather to the pre-lager fermentation method of using ale yeast. Amber in color, the Alt has a clean flavor, which is similar to a dark lager but with the addition of noble hops from Germany with a light biscuity flavor.

Poured into a pokal, the appearance was a dark red to brown color with a thin white foamy head that dissipated at a nice pace. Moderate thin speckled lacing.
The aroma starts off with crisp sweet bready malts entering in upon some light grassy hops. Light caramel and then some biscuity notes slide in underneath.
The flavor leans malty sweet with a touch of the German lager yeast creating a nice lager biscuity smoothness. Super low grassy with malty aftertaste with finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine for what it was.
Overall, pretty good Americanized altbier with a tad more grassy hops than expected along with some more caramel tones. Still, worthy of coming back just for the hell of it.
