A classic London beer style with a long and colourful history, Porter originated in the city around 300 years ago. While there are conflicting accounts of the exact origins of Porter, it’s clear the beer has been enjoyed by hard-working Londoners for centuries. We use traditional malts and Kentish hops in ours, and we’ve also brewed experimental versions with tea, coffee, oysters, chipotle, and New World hops.

Bottle from Beer Emporium, Bristol. Dark, cola brown in colour with next to no head. Coffee, some dark fruits, dank wood and a touch of sweetness, leading to a lingering, dryish finish. Good.

Bottle from Jacks, Goring-on-Thames, Oxon, Tuesday 21st January 2014 consumed at Bath Marina Campsite, Bath, Friday 24th January 2014 Pours very dark brown with little or no head. Some coffee comibg through strongly. Clearly a very roasty beer but also a bit watery. Its fine, but maybe I’m not in the mood for this, this evening. A6 A4 T7 P3 Ov14 3.4

Bottle from Cornelius. Black body with a medium beige head. Nice lacing. Aroma of Twiglets, ash and espresso. Flavour is chocolate and bitter coffee and I agree with McNeillR’s comments on the burnt plastic band comparison. Thin body with a watery texture. Soft carbonation. A sessionable, flavoursome Porter that’s a bit on the thin side.

Bottle from Oddbins, West Hampstead, London. A dark brown/black coloured pour with a medium beige head on top. Malty, chocolate aroma. Tastes similar, malty, rich chocolate, slightly roasty, hint of coffee. Nice smooth porter and such a low ABV too.
