Three Songs is a classic Russian Imperial Stout brewed in the American tradition. Russian Imperial stouts were originally brewed in Britain for export to the court of the Russian Czars. As the craft beer movement took flight in America, American brewers took inspiration from the British version of the style and created a slightly stronger, roastier and drier version of the style.

Three Songs takes its name from a composition by Russian composer Igor Stravinsky, who composed “Three Songs from William Shakespeare”. This is another cross-cultural phenomenon with Shakespeare of course being British. Our Three Songs Stout will be tasted and not heard in three forms:
• Unsoaked • Aged in Brandy barrels and • Aged in a Rum barrel from our friends at Copper Bottom Craft Distillery in Daytona.

Three Songs is jet black with a light tan foam in appearance. A vinous, complex aroma with notes of dried dark fruit, coffee, bakers chocolate and caramel is assertive but balanced and pleasant. A huge, smooth roast character dominates the flavor profile, complemented by bittersweet cocoa and light heat from the robust 10% alcohol by volume. The finish is smooth and clean, with lightly sweet caramel complementing a firm hop bitterness, as well as a mild warming sensation from the alcohol.

This beer is a huge stout, with complexity and character to back up its significant strength. It opens up with some warming, and should be enjoyed slowly and thoughtfully to appreciate the nuance and complexity.
