Snifter at the brewery. Pours dark brown, nearly black, with medium sized, frothy, tan head. The aroma is smooth, bittersweet chocolate, vanilla, oak and a touch of peaty smoke, and a very pleasant chili pepper character. Sweet, with a good, light bitterness to balance, and a building, intense heat. Medium to heavy body, smooth, with an easy, silky feel, and a clean finish, in spite of the heat. This is an amazingly smooth, well made, and delicious chili stout. None of the unpleasant burnt flavors, nor the celery character that often comes with a chili beer. Instead, it drinks like a nice chili chocolate bar, with great character, balance, and body.
