Had this at the 2011 mid summer morning mead tasting at Vintage, nice place, y’know? Very sweet aroma and taste, but its never clying like some beers can be. Almost like smellimg perfume. Can’t taste fig but it is like wine with heavy suger in there. Goes down easy. Too easy.

Saffron-yellow color. The aroma of fig is evident (the leaves, the trunk, the sap), then the honey too; wood, mild incense, smell of souk... Original, very much appreciated. Sweet, quite syrupy; good honey flavor, with a mild nutty touch from the dried figs, and some sweet wood; the acidity is subdued, so the alcohol takes on the task to balance the sweetness.
A different one, peculiar; very good!

From bottle at Sunset Grill. Pours clear and golden orange with no head. Aroma is herbal tea like and honey. Sweet honey to sugarish. Again a herbal tea like note. Sweet and herbal finish.

Sample from bottle at Glunz Beer Expo, April ’10. As the pourer said, it is very viscous, and we’re only getting a tiny pour because it is 12%. A bit of a figgy smell (I could say figgy pudding, but I’ve never had that). Very thick and golden yellow in glass. Tastes very much like figs. Taste much better than the coffee and chili meads I’ve had from these folks. Guess it just goes to show that meads work best with fruit. The fig taste adds to the thick mouthfeel. It sits on the tongue very nicely. Well recommended.

Creosote and honey nose. Clear yellow. Honey, oranges, and coal up front. Finishes with a more distinctly herbal and fig aspect. Mouthfeel isn’t nearly as silky as the other Makana meads I’ve had, but still nice. Decent amount of character, but wasn’t as enjoyable as Makana’s other offerings, IMVHO.
