This intensely hoppy, ruby ale was first brewed in April 2010 for St.Georges Day. However, the label actually commemorates a lesser known hero, Dr Gideon Mantell, the original Father of Paleontology. The respected Lewes Doctor has become regarded as the person responsible for clearly identifying the prehistoric reptiles we today refer to as ‘dinosaurs’. The label depicts Dr Mantell discovering his Iguanodon near Cuckfield, in Sussex in 1821.

Cask at Cockney pub, Århus. Nice head with good duration. Color is amber. Aroma and taste are caramel, malt, hops and some fruity notes.

Cask handpull at The Pilot, Maidstone. Whilst the rest of the London crew were enjoying the BrewDog Abstrakt event, I was in Maidstone being totally blown away. This cask had been on for 4 days, so could have been in better condition, hence the 3 for palate but the sweet malts are great. But the best thing is the dry hopping which gives it a really sharp full hoppy green English hop finish. So arresting. Stunnhing. Even if it is 4 days old, you can’t kill the brilliance of this beer. Utter amazing. Re-rate Cask handpull at Egham spring festival 2011. Still hoppy still drinkable as hell just one of my favourite beers.
