In 1794 the royal navy commissioned the foundry, that's now our home, to forge a new kind of naval weapon. Six months later on its maiden voyage a (partly) successful trial concluded with widespread damage in the pretty seaside village of Herne Bay, and the torpedo was born. Sharing our brewing space with such history has inspired us to brew an explosive beer packing a punch of American Cascade and British Bramling Cross hops. Amber coloured and unashamedly bitter.

Pours an almost clear orange amber colour with a small thin off white head. Aroma is malty, caramel, grainy bread, some fruit and grassy hop notes. Taste is malt; toasted grain bread, caramel, moderate sweetness, grapefruit and grassy herb hop bitterness that lingers.

Cask. Appearance is quite a dark amber, a small off-white head with tight bubbles. Aroma- smells freshly brewed- very malty, digestive biscuit, hops, mash tun. Taste- lemon, dry hops, dusty cupboard, watery mouthfeel. This used to taste different. In bottle- much crisper and hoppier, wheaty malty undertones. Better.

Bottle at home picked up from the brewpub in Canterbury. Big hiss when the bottle is opened. Clear golden / bright orange coloured pour with a big rocky white head. Very lively. Aroma is tea, herbal / hedgerow hop, light jammy fruit. Little onion on the nose as well. Flavour is composed of tangy grains, tanin, slight infection, tea bag, hawthorne, hedgerow hop. Palate is very thin, way over carbonated, gassy, Assertive rough grassy bitterness.

Cask @ The Foundry. Rather clear golden body with a small off-white head. Mild and nice fruity aroma with pale malt. Flavor is smooth pale ale, fruity hops and a good level of bitterness for a bitter. Medium body and a nice bitter aftertaste. Nice, uncomplicated session ale with fine balance and pleasant bitterness.

Flaske 0,5l delt med Rune under seanse hos ham 7 Jan 13. Gave fra Harrisoni! Thanks a lot. Gyldenbrun. Litt uklar. Høyt luftig skum med mye lacing. Pent! Forsiktig fruktaroma. Antydning til fjøssmak - men den går over i en tung bitterhet. Veldig uklar i siste kvelling.

500ml bottle passed on by Harrisoni during a trip to London last November. Many thanks to Harrisoni for this beer gift that Finn and I enjoyed back home during a rating session. Pours a beige, bubbly head with good duration. Spotty lacing to the glass. Near-clear, golden body. Dry hoppy fruits and grainy malts to the nose. Mild malt-fruity taste with leafy hops creating a fine, dry bitter ending. Smooth on the swallow. Nice bitter (Tromsø, 07.01.2013).
