In 1794 the royal navy commissioned the foundry, that's now our home, to forge a new kind of naval weapon. Six months later on its maiden voyage a (partly) successful trial concluded with widespread damage in the pretty seaside village of Herne Bay, and the torpedo was born. Sharing our brewing space with such history has inspired us to brew an explosive beer packing a punch of American Cascade and British Bramling Cross hops. Amber coloured and unashamedly bitter.

Handbottle @ chriso s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2011.Clear medium yellow orange colour with a small to average, frothy, fair lacing, fully diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, hay, caramel, moderate hoppy, grass. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light metalic. [20110730]

From a plastic milk bottle@The Chriso Pre-GBBF Shindig 2011 "Donkey Dork Lord Edition". Deep golden colour, small head. Aroma is fruits, wood, some earth and mild bready notes. Flavour is floral, fruity and quite earthy with a quite crisp bitter bite.

From a milk container at Chris O’s GBBF shindig. Amber/gold pour, no head. Good fruit laden nose, hints of caramel. Nutty flavours with some light citrus. Quite nice.

Milk jug version at Chriso’s, thanks to Ian. Malty aroma with caramel malt and grass. Malty caramel falvor with a nice, dry, bitter finish. Grass, a bit tangy, very peppery in the end. Great hops.

Bottle at ChrisO’s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2011. Milk bottle, that is, thanks to Ian. Pours a nice gold with a light, filmy head. Some toast and grain in the nose. Dry grain flavor, light to medium sweet, faint toast. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Very dry finish, leafy with light grass and toast. Pretty nice.

Cask handpull at The Foundry, Canterbury. I wake up some mornings dreaming of this beer. Something that hasn’t happened in years. A most bitter, bitter. Some gooseberry on the aroma, firm biscuit body and bitter bitter bitter on finish. I love it. Yes, it may not be perfect to some people, but I just love the kick on the finish. Good beer.

Cask at The Foundry Brewpub, Canterbury, Kent 16th July 2011, in company of Ian and the jolly nice brewer Tom? who gave us a tour and chat about the brewery. Pours mid amber with a white rim and a filmy head. This is bitter from the off, very fresh and clingy with some sweetness that carries on through. Sweet grapefruit, good finishing bitterness, soft in the mouth but there is a furriness. Lovely beer, have had a good 2-3 pints of this today and was most impressed. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.8

Cask at the Foundry, Canterbury. Pours gold with a small head. Aroma is astringent hops. Taste starts with tropical fruit. Piney grapefruit bitter finish. Tasty but the nose could do with a bit of work.
