22oz bottle from Crossroads Beer & Wine, Burlington, MA. Pours a bright golden amber with a tight cream head and some light carbonation; the aroma has touches of honey and resin over some sweet malts; it’s syrupy in the mouth with gentle, but assertive, hops that give a much more civilised taste experience than a modern IPA; the finish is warming with a hint of cinnamon. An excellent pale ale, and a good start to my US trip.

Bottle. Clear amber with a large off-white head that settles to half an inch. Low bead. Aroma of kumquats, caramel, a little pine. Light-bodied. Sweet with more fruit than caramel, nice clean citrus flavours and modest but distinct bitterness. Overclean to my tastes, but refreshing and balanced.

This is what every pale ale should be, a little brother to an IPA, not bland yellow crap, but maybe a little easier for session type drinking instead of a hop bomb, this was exactly what I would want for a pale.

Bottle 22fl.oz. @ home.Clear medium amber orange yellow colour with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, moderate to heavy hoppy, citrus, peachy, orange - citrus. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long duration, peachy. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20110717]

22 ounce bottle. Pours slightly hazy golden amber color with a nice dense 2 finger off white head with fantastic retention that reduces to a thick lacing cap. Some decent lacing is left on the glass as well. Aromas of nice orange, pine, citrus, and some caramel. Nice strength and balance in the aromas as well. Taste of citrus, caramel, pine, and some spices A decent amount of bitterness shows up on the finish that lingers for a bit with citrus and pine flavors. Medium carbonation and body. Very smooth drinking with very nice flavor and no alcohol detected at all. Excellent pale ale from Bear Republic, as expected. Delicious!

Lots of piney fresh grapefruit notes. The hops really shine and are wonderful, but found the backbone was just too light. Would prefer with more body. Moderate bitter finish. Still a fun beer.

Drank a Victory Headwaters Pale Ale last night and wanted to get a close comparison of these two, XP being my previous pale ale champ (I’ve finally come across to Ryan’s logic that Dale’s Pale Ale is really a IPA in sheep’s clothing.) Nice to see how the two pair off. That being said, I still very much like XP, but it’s not quite the slap in the face o’ goodness that is Headwaters. But who cares, really, because this bottle is one amazing Pale Ale, not to be taken for granted. After all, truly good regular Pale Ales are a rare beast to find, and good ones should be flaunted. Thus, you be needin’ to flaunt the shit outta XP. Good and dry and hoppy and pretty and smooth and in dire need of six-packing in South Carolina, Bear Republic shows great skill in an oft lackadaisical style.

Bottled at Monk’s Café Wallingatan, Stockholm. Clearpale amber huge firm creamy head. Restrained grapefruit aroma. Dry and crisp, fairly light bodied with fairly clean mouthfeel. Good piney bitterness. A well balanced drinkable beer with nice hop presence, but a bit too clean mouthfeel.
