Gose

I believe this is a 2012 bottle. Aroma has a medium citrus note with moderate coriander character. Moderately strong, musty wheat notes. Light tannins and funkiness with a bit of staleness. Pours a surprisingly clear, pale yellow gold with a big, fluffy white head with seemingly never ending retention. Light lacing and faint legs. Flavor is moderately musty and funky with medium citrus and coriander. Medium light acidity and light saltiness. Light tannins with moderate red apple cider notes. Faint bitterness. Mouthfeel is light bodied with high carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall a decent beer, but I think the age has muddled the brightness I would expect in this style of beer. The cider notes are also a bit unpleasant.

1 finger head, cloudy orange. Coriander dominates the nose. Slightly sweet. Taste is nice. Very wheat heavy. The salt hit at the very end. Sweet and lovely spice. Quite sessionable.

Bottle, shared with AJ and friend. Pours hazy butterscotch, medium off-white head, dissipates fairly slowly and laces well. Aroma is wheat, lemon, a touch of cardboard. Flavor is wheat, lemon/citrus, a bit of salt, biscuit. Light body, high carbonation. Easy to drink for sure, but not a lot going on here.

Bottle shared at Ma Che in Roma. Big thanks to Colin for this one! Pours cloudy yellow with a fine, white foam head. Doughy pale malt nose with faint wheat, citrus. Very slight lemony tang in the flavor with more lightly doughy pale bread, wheat. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Moderate sweetness in the finish with simple, doughy pale malts, faint lemon and banana. Very drinkable stuff.

Very strong wheat profile, low salt, reminds me more of a typical German weizen with banana bread and lemon flavor,

750 ml bottle. Pours a hazy amber with full head of large bubbles that dissipate quickly. Lots of carbonation. Aromas of citrus, yeast, toasted malts, and coriander. Flavors of wheat, earth, lemons, and coriander. Salty - as expected.

Bottle, 750ml. An unclear orange colored beer with a small white head. The aroma is lightly orange fruity, with a spiced touch and some grassy, piney hops. The flavor too is fruity, a tad sweet I think, with some malty hints, coriander and bitterness. Medium body, nicely carbonated. Bitter, fruity finish. A fine brew it is, but more reminiscent of a Belgian blond than a Gose. 130808

Pours slightly hazy golden with a white head, Aroma has notes of malt, wheat, coriander, some fruits and yeast. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with a long coriander and slightly salt finish. Body is medium, texture is thin to oily, carbonation is soft.

Pours pale yellow and cloudy with a big white head. The head is pretty fizzy and fades to nothing quickly. The aroma is subdued, particularly in terms of the characteristic gose elements. It’s mostly wheat spice and malt sweetness. There’s some mild coriander spicing and a touch of lactic acid in the mix. Maybe, a little lemon but less than I expect and want in the style. The taste is similar. It tastes like their witbier with a little bit of gose blended in. There’s a little bit of salt and lactic sourness, but this is a very mild version of the style. It’s moderately dry, though I’d call it relatively sweet for the style. It’s quite clean. Too clean, really. Mouthfeel is light and clean. Little to no pucker. Overall, it’s a decent enough beer, though a touch boring. I just can’t help feeling disappointed, since I like the spice, salt and sour of the style.
