Belgian Style - Strong Ale Winter|

Bursting and creamy foam, the olfactory spectrum is dominated by a strong fruitiness reminiscent of caramelized apples and Sicilian royal paste in the background. Ethyl in the mouth, with a soft onset immediately attacked by a sharp acid freshness. To be combined with a cold winter evening.

12.2% a slightly opaque copper pour with a 1cm head of foam. A quad with a yeasty bready malt nose with some fruity notes that evoke wine. The taste is bready, yeasty, a dash of spice and a lots of malt.

On tap at the Barley Wine pub in Rome-ITALY. Pours a great orange-peel colour, hazy with a small off white head. Nose: yeast forward, wine most, strawberries. Mouth: alcohol, peach. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours dark amber with a lasting head.Nose shows brown sugar, confectionery, a gooseberry lambic note, horseblanket and lemon. Unorthodox and probably not intended but nice. Some of the funky notes transfer through as flavours but it’s more about the malt; very sweet with big confectionery sugar-like notes. Some booze but reasonably well-integrated. A bit too sweet.Could use a fair bit more carbonation.

0471272013 Ma che siete venuti a fà (330ml bottle). Ambrata scarica, abbastanza limpida, morbida schiuma pannosa, abbondante e persistente. Al naso sentori fruttati e di zucchero candito, mandorle e frutta rossa (ciliegie). In bocca l’alcol si sente parecchio, l’attacco è dolce, sul finale vira verso un leggero acidulo, complessa e appagante. Corpo pieno, carbonazione media. Non male! La versione Reserva ha qualcosa in più.

Bottle, 10C. Hazy golden amber with a finger of cream head. Aroma of boiled oranges, earth, sweet black tea. Heavy but just creamy mouthfeel, low but useful carbonation. Rich macerated dried stone fruits, some light citrus and spice (cloves, some pepper) notes. Enough bitterness and leaning towards dry at the end such that the richness doesn’t overstay. Oranges - sweet and mouldering - linger. Not really my sort of thing, but lovely texture and balance appeal.

330ml bottle, lotto 349-10, bought in March 2012 at Johnny Off License (Via Veio), in Roma and kept in my cellar for drinking pleasure this Christmas. Pours a firm off-white head and a near-clear, amber coloured body. Sediments to the last pour. No lacing. Aroma of dusty hops and fresh, sweet fruits. Earthy malts, dry lemon and overall a candy sweet fruity taste profile softened by spices and partially offset by bittersweet oranges to the finish. Warming and velvety mouthfeel. Mostly integrated alcohol. Nice, however, too sweet for a higher score (Saturday eve at home, Tromsø 29.12.2012).

Bottled 330ml (PBF, BB 11/2012)
Hazy dark orange color, huge cloudy off-white head. Berryish, a bit spicey aroma. Medium-bodied. Very sweet, berryish flavor with Belgian-.style yeastyness and some burning alcohol (mostly sweetness overrides it). Some peppery notes too.
