Typically dark ales don’t emphasize the hops, but in this black IPA, a style recently popularized on the West Coast, it’s all about hop character. Assertive bitterness is shared with its paler cousin and generous quantities of Simcoe, Amarillo, Columbus and Cascade conspire with a subtle roasted flavor give this beer unique and delicious flavor.

Growler from the brewpub. Pours a clear dark brown color with a thin tan head. Fair head retention and lacing. Aroma of chocolate, vegetal and resiny hops and a bit of earthiness. Taste is bitter resiny hops with some citrus notes, chocolate, bitter coffee and light roastiness. Thin-medium bodied. Decent.
