Wee Joe Halfpenny left his Irish homeland in 1971 and journeyed to the "New World". After years of drinking mediocre big box brews, a constant ache lingered for his hometown brew. Halfpenny and his brewer son Conor perfected a recipe that satisfied that thirst. Here is their version of a "Black Castle", dubbed the "Halfpenny Ale" - an Irish Black and Tan. Guaranteed to make anyone want to raise their pint and toast. Slainte!

Mild walnut aroma. Clear ruby brown, thick sudsy cascading tan head, decent lacing. Earthy soil flavor, walnuts, slightly mossy. Nice, but perhaps overly subtle.Very approachable. A fine tribute to a fine gentleman.

Growler from Sedona Charlottesville. Pours a clear dark amber color with a large foamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of roast and lots of chocolate. The taste is again lots of chocolate, roasted malts, a bit of burnt sugar and some fairly strong hops. Thin-medium bodied, lingering bitterness, very drinkable. Nice beer.
