According to German beer law, only beers brewed in Cologne can carry this illustrious title. Aside from our brewery’s Kentucky location, we are certain Kentucky Kölsch® lives up to these high beer standards.
For years, Alltech master brewers have used their very own specialized yeast, which is the single greatest contributor to this remarkably flavorful and award-winning microbrew. Our master brewers’ recipe calls for imported pale malts and malted white wheat to create an exceptionally smooth finish.
Kentucky Kölsch® was renamed from Kentucky Light in spring 2013 to more accurately reflect its beer style. The light-bodied, crisp ale is a German-style Kölsch ale, a classic style of beer originating from Cologne, Germany. With the increasing savvy of craft beer enthusiasts, the Kölsch descriptor is now better recognized and understood.

Bottle. Musty lemon and grass aroma. Hazy yellow with a small white head. Sour corn malt flavor with a slight grassy bitter finish. Light body and carbonation. I suppose it would do in a pinch on a hot day, but I wouldn’t seek it out.

From a bottle and it does smell alittle like those pale lagers from the old country; a little veggie on the pop. Looks like a slightly hazy pale lager. Quite easy on the taste buds with lots of co2 zest. Goes down fairly easy and its better than those other kentucky beers I’ve had. Yes refreshing and easy, quite likable to this lager lover. Not bad, a friendly beer drinken experience. Very little detectable alky and I guess this is due to the 4% alky level. Nice finish, overall good beer drinken experience.

sample from bottle at Brew Haven fest - Pours clear yellow with a small white head. There’s a mild grainy malt aroma. The flavor is sweet cereal malts with some mild bitterness coming through in this drinkable but quite unimpressive beer. It’s not worth exporting to the UK. We’ve got much better brews, my British friends!

12oz bottle. Hyper thin pale yellow water color. Thin head gives it a generous 2 for appearance. Kolsch huh? Smells buttery, putrid, gross. I’m scared. Isn’t good, clearly infected. Kentucky isn’t exactly the seat of American brewing culture, and this beer is a crappy confirmation of that fact. This wouldn’t satisfy anyone’s beer craving, being too gross and garbage buttery to be a session beer, and too all around gross to be a sipper. What a horrible beer, not even respectable enough to be considered a bastardization of Kolsch.
