Watneys Scotch is een Scotch ale, een van oorsprong Schotse biersoort van hoge gisting die sinds de Eerste Wereldoorlog ook in België wordt gebrouwen. Watneys Scotch is een donkerrood bier, waarbij tijdens de degustatie een aroma van karamel naar boven komt, evenals de smaak van rijpe bosvruchten (kersen). Deze sensatie wordt nog geaccentueerd door de smaak van gebrande moutsoorten.

A hazed brown ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet grape jam and prunes, with honey from mederization. In mouth, sweet cloying dark fruit with molasses, thin and boring. Bieropholie import, BB 13-12-08.

Brown bottle, 25 cl, best before 13-12-08, purchased at the LCBO, savoured on September 8 2011; eye: mahogany, clear, no effervescence, tiny ring of beige head, light lacing; nose: yeast, caramel, light ash; mouth: a big wave of caramel, yeast, finale in caramel, medium body, below-average carbonation, quite sweet, sticky texture; overall: quite ordinary FRANÇAIS Bouteille brune, 25 cl, meilleure avant 13-12-08, achetée à la LCBO, savourée le 8 septembre 2011; œil : acajou, limpide, pas d’effervescence, petit anneau de mousse beige, légère dentelle; nez : levure, caramel, très léger cendré; bouche :une gosse vague de caramel, levure, caramel, finale en caramel, corps moyen, carbonatation sous la moyenne, pas mal sucrée, texture collante; en résumé : b’en ordinaire

(bottle, 25cl) Clear, dark amber to mahogany colour with a medium-sized and slightly tanned foamy head. Sweet and slightly sour-fruity aroma with notes of toasted malt, caramel and hints of onions, vegetables. Sweet flavour, medium to full bodied with a soft carbonation. Sugary and slightly toasted malty aroma with traces of liquorice; sugary sweet malty finish with hints of caramel. Not my cup of beer. 14.VI.11

Bottled. Slightly hazy ambery brown colour with a small off-white head. Aroma is alcohol, some slight burnt sugar, some slight sourish wooden notes as well as mild notes of leather. Flavour is being quite similar, but also has some slight toffee and caramel malts in it.
