Ripper is the Green Jack Brewing Company's champion Barley Wine. Inspired by Belgian tripel ales, this multi-award winning brew is dangerously drinkable. Rich amber in colour; Ripper is sweet and fruity with a robust hop character and a warming finish.

Botle 75 cl. Courtesy of madmitch76. Pours golden with a few tiny impurities and a small and lacing off-white head. Sweet fruit in the nose but unfortunately also sweaty feet British hops. Medium body, fruity, a little perfumy with a very hoppy finish. Nice if not for the poor hops. 290311

Cask @ Blackfriars, as Green Jack Ripper Tripel. Orange colour, off-white head. Hasn’t much to do with a Belgian Tripel. Nose of sweet fruits, malty. Flavour is sweet malts, sweet caramel, alcohol, glue. Fairly bitter and sour finish. Very strong and sweet beer, light bodied with a alcohol burn. Not well done.

Amber with a small white head. Toffee, biscuit, orange and even some Christmas pudding in the aroma. Sweet and very spicy flavour with a dry finish.

Cask @ Volunteer Arms, GBBF 2007. Pours a clear golden color with a small off-white head. Fruity malty and slightly hoppy aroma. Sweet smooth warming malty flavor with hints of dark fruit. Sweet warming malty finish with a bitter aftertaste.

(Cask at GBBF, London, 9 Aug 2007) Copper colour with brief beige head. Malty nose with notes of dried fruit and citrussy hops, rather sweet and a bit closed. Malty taste with tropical fruit and honey, slightly vinous but seductively easy to drink despite the high alcohol level. Full body, rather sweet and slightly syrupy mouthfeel. A bit too sweet for me, but very warming.

Cask@GBBF2007. Golden colour, small white head. Aroma is quite much alcohol along with some grassyness and slight fruityness. Flavour is sweet fruits, some alcohol and bitterness. Surprisingly interesting and good brew.

Cask gravity at GBBF 2007. It’s Winter Champion beer of Britain, so I was excited by this. Amber, thin beige head. Good barley wine aroma, it is a bit sweet, but you’d expect that, intense toffee and grapefruit. It’s a good barley wine, takes you to a cloudy, fluffy, cotton wool world. Peppery hop. Hot alcohol. Some nice toffee. Great effect.

Gravicask at GBBF 07 ... Lovely golden amber ... again nice sweet fruity hop nose ... a clawingly sweet toffeee with lots of depth and caramel malt tones that settles down to be less clawing and grew on me as i drank through the 1/3 pint.

Cask@Leicester Beer Festival. Amber beer with a light barley wine like aroma and a quite fruity and malty flavour. Overall a plain strong beer.
