(Cask at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 24 Nov 2013) Dark brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty nose with dark fruit, coffee, chocolate and prunes. Malty, toasty taste with notes of dark fruit, prunes, raisins, chocolate, coffee and a certain spicy bitterness in the finish. Quite complex and very tasty. Nice one.

Cask at White Horse. It pours deep brown with a thick off-white head. The nose is wood, earth, toast, light smoke, spice and umami notes. The taste is wood, earth, toast, dark fruit, berry, spice, varnish, tang, earth and varnish with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Pretty tasty and well-balanced. Nice example of an old ale. Rather enjoyable stuff.

Bottle from Scottish Real Ale Shop. Brown colour, tan head. This a massive caramel malts bomb. Caramel and toffee all over the place. This is really poorly done.

Bottle, courtesy of fonefan. It’s a clear, dark brown beer with a small, beige head. Rather rubbery on the nose, with licorice, some caramel notes and charcoal. The flavor has some of the same caramel, charcoal and rubber, all in a sort of of pleasnt way. Medium body, pleasant carbonation. The bitter is roasted and licorice-like. A strange one indeed, but sort of nice anyway. 110415
