Hop Strike! is a dry-hopped Black Rye-IPA built from the ground up at Tommyknocker Brewery. This beer is characterized by an intermingling of spicy citrus hops and chocolate malt creating an interesting complexity and great first impression on the nose. Hop Strike’s substantial 95 IBUs are balanced by the chocolate rye resulting in a nice depth of malt character and deep color.
Appearance: Deep Brown/Black, light tan head
Malts: Idaho Pale Malt, European Crystal, Chocolate malt and Chocolate rye
Hops: Chinook, Newport, Glacier, Nugget and Summit
Dry-hopped with 40 pounds of hops, 16 deg. Plato, 78 IBUs, 45 SRM, 7% ABV

(Draught at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 7 Aug 2010) Dark brown colour, almost black, with frothy beige head. Roasted, malty, hoppy nose with notes of pine needles and dark bread. Roasted, malty taste with coffee, pine needles, roasted malt and a fairly dry finish with a generous cocoa bitterness. More than medium body, dry, with a solid piny cocoa bitterness. Very nice.

Draft at Max’s. Dark brown, beige head. Aroma of stinky feet. Taste is toasted pumpernickel and rye bread. Decent stuff.

Draught@The White Horse, Parsons Green. Deep brownish amber colour with a small head. Aroma is fruits, some floral notes, mild liquorice as well as some sweetish maltyness. Flavour is fruity and floral hops along with sweet malts, some mild spices as well as mild toasted notes.

On tap at the Vintage Estate, nice place and nice customer service! Please my purist peers, ignore the numbers on this rare one. Bread yeast floral dull hop aroma, comes across fresh on the olfactory. Big tan foamy head. Not cloudy, dark but no haze. Flat. Very bitter yet bready background. What else can be said but on style; rude crude long bitter finish that would make any IPA lover envious. Alky content did not seem to be 7%, covers it well.

From tap. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is caramelish and crisp peachy hoppy. Lingering dark malty and caramelish. Bitter and subdued fruity hoppy. Grapefruity and toffee caramelish. Crisp and nicely roasted malty. Bitter and dry finish.
