Ships and Salsa is an unfiltered agave lager brewed with a traditional Vienna malt base with flaked maize added to the grain bill. The beer has the crisp, dry body that fans of Mexican style lagers will be used to enjoying. But the addition of the flaked maize and a massive amount of agave syrup give this refreshing beer an enjoyable underlying sweetness. A generous dose of New Zealand’s Wakatu hop shines through with its pronounced lime citrus notes, replacing the much reviled lime wedge in your beer.

Can to becher pint glass.
Appearance: yellow in color with a semi-cloudy with a sly transparency and a one and a half fingers of white foamy head. The head slid off nicely to leave some decent lace
Aroma: citrusy tones over top of some sweet corn qualities, clean malts
Flavor: blends the prior mentioned aromas semi-sweetly, nice smooth corn sweet aftertaste
Texture: light to medium bodied, sessionable, smooth along the tongue, finishes crisp and fruity hoppy smooth
Overall: I like this beer as it seemed like a good one to return to in the Summer.

Pours a nice clear straw from a can, fluffy white head is retained with some lacing. Malty aroma is nondescript, flavor is bright, a little grapefruit, followed by grass before getting to a pithy bitterness. Starts off as kind of a letdown in terms of a nondescript lager but boy that bitterness is refreshing. Pretty good beer.

Pours clear straw into a shaker. Bright white head with good retention recedes leaving trailing sheets. Mild malt aromas. Soft with sweet agave and marshmallow upfront turning to bitter pumpernickel, leaves and earth in the medium length finish.
