(Cask at Gallows Bird Magna Carta Real Ale Festival 2015) The beer poured black. Its head was small and lightly brown. Aroma had malts, liquorice and pine. Palate was medium bodied with low carbonation. Flavours were smoke, liquorice, pine, burnt malts and low bitterness. Aftertaste was smoky, burnt and bitter. Not so good roasted and smoky brew.

Cask. Sheffield Tap. Clear, dark chestnut brown. Thick, bubbly, lasting tan head. Light roast malt. Lots of fruit, mostly citrus. Some dark toffee. A little mintiness. Some tropical fruit on the end. Taste is dry, and moderately bitter. Palate is smooth, although there’s a little astringency. Finishes dry, and zesty bitter. Good, but a little tart.

Bottle from Ales By Mail [240114]
Dark brown, clear, tan bubbly head that dissipates to thin layer, some lacing
Aroma - Citrus and floral hops, bit spicy, chocolate, smooth dark malts, touch of grapefruit, nice fruity floral aroma with a chocolate dark malts background, very mellow roast
Taste - Smooth dark malts, chocolate, floral hops, grapefruit. grapefruit, dab of sponge cake mix, soft mellow roast, quite a complex flavour for the abv, I’m liking this a lot
Palate - Medium carb and body, light sweet. Finish as main flavour, more bitter citrus hop comes through, some bitter dark roast
Overall - Really nice BIPA - I have to try the cask one day
