OIBF Collaboration Brew. What we knew about Broyhans wasn’t a lot apart from being a pale, sour beer with little hops, some spices instead and that it had wine like qualities. We started with the base of a kettle soured pale beer with wheat and oats. We added some Hallertau Blanc at flame-out and filled the hop back with Sorachi Ace and white pepper, then we fermented with a Belgian yeast strain that would add some spicy flavors.

0.33 l bottle from ’Mitra Van Bergen’, bottled in July 2016. Minimally hazy, golden yellow with a thin, fluffy, quickly diminishing, white head. Sourish-fruity aroma of lemon, wheat and rhubarb. Quite sour and fruity taste of lemon, pineapple, rhubarb and a bit of wheat, followed by a short, quite tart finish. Medium body, rather effervescent and quite astringent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Okay, as expected just simple sour stuff I do not really look for (see UC Ku’Damm as representative for the better ones).

Draft at Kimchi Festival 2016. Hazy pale yellow with thin white head. Sweet malts, overpowered by salty mineral notes, lemonjuice. Mild sour and mild minerallike saltiness. Under medium body, soft fizzy carbo, minerallike texture. Refreshing!
