OIBF Collaboration Brew. What we knew about Broyhans wasn’t a lot apart from being a pale, sour beer with little hops, some spices instead and that it had wine like qualities. We started with the base of a kettle soured pale beer with wheat and oats. We added some Hallertau Blanc at flame-out and filled the hop back with Sorachi Ace and white pepper, then we fermented with a Belgian yeast strain that would add some spicy flavors.

33 cl bottle @ home. Pale yellow color, slightly hazy. White head with short retention. Aroma’s: lactic sourish, salty, fruity. Retronasal it’s quite sour, lactic, salty, wheaty. Flavor is moderate to full sour, wheaty, fruity. Light bodied. Short finish. I really had the impression that there was actual fruit in this (but no) and I didn’t get any of the pepper. Nice enough.

Bottle from Biernavigatie, bottle date 29/07/2016 BB 29/07/2017, large sample. Hazy yellow color, short frothy head. Aroma of pineapple, lactic acid, grainy wheat, spicy notes, bit white wine, spruce. Bit weird actually. Soft sour in taste, peppery spice, lactic, grainy wheat. Remains weird. Lacks some depth unfortunately.
